There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is banned. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that highlights a number of conveniences in addition to the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
